The 'Pioneer' of Residential Water Softening on Oahu
AAA BestWater Co.'s owner and President, Michael F. Gold, 'pioneered' Residential Water Softening on Oahu in 1983, by being the first one to introduce and market Water Softening Systems to the Oahu residential market.
How and Why Did He Become Involved in Marketing Water Softening Equipment?
Starting in December of 1978, Michael became involved in the Hawaii Residential and Commercial Solar Water Heating System's Sales, Marketing, Installation and Servicing Industry. As he was involved in that industry, he became aware of how 'Hard Water'scaling was affecting the performance of Solar Water Heating Systems, and causing damage and premature failure of Solar Collector Panels, Storage Tanks, and other components. After testing the water in all areas of Oahu, he discovered that all the water supplies on Oahu were HARD ranging from Slightly Hard to Very Hard, and that even Slightly Hard Water would cause 'Hard Water' scaling! As he researched those problems, he discovered that 'Hard Water' scaling had long been a concern of the water heating industry as a whole and the solar water heating industry in particular. He also discovered that research done by the US Department of Energy had confirmed the damaging effects of 'Hard Water' scaling to Solar Water Heating Systems, Click Here> and the research had also determined that employing water softening was the most successful solution to the problem, that there was no longer any danger of scaling or 'Hard Water' damage, because the (calcium) ions are removed in the water softening process.

April 1983 The Month & Year of Revelation!
In April 1983, Michael was watching the news on TV in his home in Mililani, when it was reported that the Mililani Wells were contaminated with FOUR different VOCs (CHEMICAL Volatile Organic Compounds). Click Here> That was the first time any well contamination was revealed to the public. For several months prior to this revelation, Michael had already been researching Water Softening and Filter Systems and Manufacturers, and was just about to start a Water Treatment Systems Dealership. Upon this news, he confirmed that the company he was going to become a dealer for, also had the leading Water Filter Equipment to handle the four known VOCs. In addition to the equipment testing and certification that was already done by the manufacturer, Michael got the manufacturer to agree to test their equipment again by a local Hawaii Certified Laboratory, specifically for the four known VOCs. The test results, by the Hawaii Certified Laboratory, Certified that the equipment removed the four known VOCs. The Water Filter Equipment was not only originally Tested & Certified to remove many other contaminants, but had a second verification by the Hawaii Certified Laboratory.
Upon this news, Michael began his new Water Treatment Systems Dealership in 1983. The first thing he did was donate the Tested, Certified & Validated Water Filter Equipment to each of the Mililani Schools, so that any child or person not wanting to drink the unfiltered contaminated city water, could now have the option of drinking 'purified water'.
[What the public didn't know at that time, was that the Hawaii Department of Health and Honolulu Board of Water Supply already new in February of 1981, that the Mililani Wells were contaminated with VOCs.
and, they also new, as far back as April of 1977, of the first known well contamination on Oahu, that occurred in Waipahu with extremely high levels of VOC contamination. The Hawai'i Department of Health and Honolulu Board of Water Supply did not reveal to the public what they knew about well contamination until many years later, and then only limited information was revealed to the public.
